STARZ has released a new trailer for the upcoming American Gods TV series and boy does it look good.
This trailer does exactly what a trailer should do. I’ve watched it several times now, and each time I just get more and more excited for the show. Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, and Kristen Chenoweth all look incredible in their roles, as do the rest of the cast. The visuals are even more beautiful than I’d expected them to be. The way the trailer is edited and utilizes the music is effective as hell when it comes to ramping up the levels of excitement. Plus we get our first looks (with dialogue!) at Chenoweth as Easter, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, and Yetide Badaki as Bilquis.
Clearly, this show isn’t for the faint of heart, but anyone who read the book knows this already. The show got a good reception at its world premiere at SXSW this past weekend, and if the final product is anything like this trailer, I completely understand why.
Words do not properly express just how excited I am for this show. I am currently in the middle of a reread of the book (and a first read of Anansi Boys) (reviews of those will be up soon!), so my brain is pretty much swimming in the world of American Gods right now, and this trailer just makes me more eager. After seeing this trailer, the wait for April 30 is gonna be long.
American Gods tells the story of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-con who is released from prison early due to the death of his wife, Laura (Emily Browning). He becomes mixed up with the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) and his quest to gather together the Old Gods in an attempt to wage battle against the New Gods (Media (Gillian Anderson), Technical Boy (Bruce Langley), Mr. World (Crispin Glover), etc) in an all-out showdown.
American Gods is executive produced by Bryan Fuller and Michael Greene, directed by David Slade, and premieres April 30 at 9pm on STARZ. And you can bet I’ll be reviewing it.
